The Board of Intermediate and secondary Education, Malakand was established w.e.f. 2003 as a result of bifurcation of BISE, Swat & have been functioning since then according to the NWFP Ordinance/Act 1990. The Board is responsible for control, organization and regulation of education of more than 450 educational institutions in public as well as private sector.

The Jurisdiction of the Board was consisting of the following four districts and two Agencies and two districts.

•  District Malakand Agency.

•  District Dir Lower.

•  District Bajaur Agency.

•  District Dir Upper.

Initially the Board was set up in the hostel of Govt. Primary School Chakdara No. 1, Then in OPF Mashall School Chakdara, Then Univerysity of Malakand.

 However, The Board has established its own building in now it is working in the board building situated in chatpat Chakdara Distt: Dir Lower Pakistan.
